Bichillo
Rob Clouth presents his latest excursion with Mesh - Bichillo, a four-track EP, out 9th May 2025.
Known for his multidisciplinary work that merged seemingly complex scientific processes with glistening sonic works, Rob’s relationship with Mesh has been a dialogue of constant exchange.
An artist regularly operating within rich thematic frameworks, he has spent much of his career between the banners of electronic music and computational sonics, but whilst ambitious subject matter can be a source of inspiration, it can also become a burden. With Bichillo, Rob circles back towards a more instinctive approach to music-making - one that is governed by fun and experimentation, and doesn’t pander to unrealistic expectations, be those internal or external.
Title track, ‘Bichillo’ opens with broken kick drums and bass wobbles, touching on fragments of UK bass, before quickly brewing into a storm of crossrhythms that never stop rising. ‘Ya’ delves into the dim glow of sub bass and garage-y percussion, chopped and fragmented til it’s on the verge of falling apart and offset with euphoric vocal bursts. ‘Ay Perdón!’ looks to a faster BPM for a spirited dose of ricocheting drums and sped up glitches, somewhere between IDM and tweaked out jungle. Rounding things off, ‘Did You Follow’ drifts off somewhere akin to the balearics, but with an uncanny undertone that keeps luring you in for more.
The result of a period of newfound inspiration - Bichillo is one of Rob’s most diverse sonic outputs to date, playfully switching between genres with an intuitive ear. As he puts it, ‘I’m back to making music properly, and I’m loving it.’
