Somewhere Far
Mesh welcome Blomfelt & Narby with five experimental wanderings on Bruder, out Fri 16th May on all digital streaming platforms.
Written primarily during a week-long residency on the southern coast of Finland, Bruder is an opportunity to capture moments in all their imperfection and beauty. As such, the production process relied on a heavy dose of improvisation and an unrelenting spirit of playfulness, with songs based around live takes on synths and an old upright piano, and field recordings from the surrounding forest adding colour to the sonic palette. Fluctuating effortlessly between different strains of dance music - from electro to IDM and plenty in between - each track is grounded by spontaneity, serving as a testament to the freedom of limitlessness.
‘Ajoie4eva’ opens with hazy pads and shuffling drums guided forwards by distant vocals. ‘An Object’ jumps a little more upbeat, with animated pitch bends swelling over glitches in the sonic tapestry. ‘Occuring’ offers a moment of stillness in the form of an 11-minute spiral into lo-fi acoustics punctuated with fragments of melody played on a piano. ‘Ruffalo in Kenosha’ leans into swung percussion and richly layered chords calling out to a wailing emotional synth lead. Rounding things off, ‘Somewhere Far’ is an electro-tinged slice of broken beats and glistening vocals that ends on a high.
By giving space for experimentation and fun, the duo allow for some of their most introspective and playful sonic creations yet.
