Mesh regular Alex Banks returns with a new EP of six tracks channeling his shapeshifting electronics, where club dynamics dissolve into their rawest forms.
Sketches formed in day to day life and developed in headphone isolation expand into distillations of nature’s beauty - from Brighton to the Balearics - capturing the optics and feels of the elements in a vast sonic palette. Shorelines exist in different shades, from overcast solitude to radiant sunlight, as the EP draws parallels between the quick transitions of weather and movement.
‘Open Ended’ gets things in motion with a drift through an infinite sea of trance. On ‘Chromatic Sky’, whirlwind breaks and spiralling melodies phase in and out of each other over syncopated rhythms. ‘Nebula’ takes a scuzzier turn into a hard industrial swarm of techno kicks and heavy distortions, like a storm at the beach. ‘A New Era’ floats upwards through glistening pads and faint vocal commands. ‘Embers’ takes a psychedelic spin through polyrhythmic build-ups at high velocity. Closing things out, the first official collaboration with Berlin-based musician Running Pine - ‘All Over’ - features haunting vocal incantations over broken beats and immersive melodic swirls.
Alex Banks maps new terrain between club functionality and introspective wandering, allowing both to exist amongst nature’s endless intrigue.
