Currents EP
Next up with his Mesh debut, multi-disciplinary artist and film director Jake Oleson presents Currents EP, a three-track EP landing 9th July 2025.

With a background in film, Oleson uses emerging technology to create immersive, emotionally resonant experiences scored by his original music. Currents was developed as a unified audio-visual project—conceived simultaneously as an immersive film and a body of music—and premiered at SXSW 2025 as one of the first independent productions made for the Apple Vision Pro. The EP now stands on its own as a meditation on memory, migration, and the emotional nuances of urbanization.

Composed in response to interviews Jake conducted with young people moving from the Vietnamese countryside to the city, Currents considers the emotional nuances of urbanization, reflecting on individual stories through sonic blueprints.

Jake expands; ‘’Many of these stories involved people letting go of parts of home to belong. Yet no matter how far we travel from home, we remain bound to our past. Currents became about exploring the moments when that past resurfaces—and how we choose to carry it forward.’’

The title track opens up fragments of sound repurposed in dub, with ricocheting muted drums flickering through echoes and delays against distant vocals. ‘wake’ layers warm synths and rising chords over clouds of reverb, eventually brought down to earth by a bass-heavy downtempo framework. Closing track ‘threads’ levitates through complex rhythms and organically breathing harmonies - an intense sonic response to a conversation had with Saigon-based DJ Vân Anh depicting transcendent visions of bodies on the dancefloor.

Ultimately, Currents meditates on tension and transition, navigating the spaces between memories of the past and the pull of an imagined future.
